Opinion Paper Topics

Opinion papers are unique in their very nature, as they reveal and support a writer’s personal view on certain topics and thus can be subjective in highlighting the most disputable issues. However, this subjectivity is acceptable as long as it is supported by sound and reliable arguments, provided in the essay. Thus, an opinion paper will be really successful in persuading the readers if the topic is right and a couple of easy rules are observed during the writing process.

Opinion Paper TopicsFirst of all, an opinion paper means that the writer has an established view on some problem and aims to share it with others. That is why in the introduction this view should be clearly formulated in simple words and be logically complete, so that the readers will then follow the flow of reasoning with clear understanding of what is offered to them. To make the introduction interesting and eye-catching, sometimes it is recommended to use an anecdote, a story taken from real life or some other parable-like narration which will better illustrate the point under discussion. However, it is absolutely normal to start with outlining the problem and then present your view which coincides with the previous statement or refutes it completely. One should just remember that a bit of interesting statistics or a surprising fact added to a simple and clear introduction will make it both captivating and easy to understand. In its turn, this guarantees that the readers’ attention will turn to the topic of your opinion paper.

The main body of the opinion paper should contain a chain of arguments firmly supporting the view provided in the introduction. They may be drawn from your own experience or borrowed from other sources, but one thing is important about them – they should prove that your point is correct and make the readers accept it too. Your own life facts are easy to talk about but they should be selected carefully and presented briefly but logically. The facts or stories taken from some secondary source are already prepared for incorporating into your writing but they should be properly referenced so that no one would ever accuse you of plagiarism. Not only full stories, but statistics, figures, separate facts and judgements are welcomed as supporting arguments as long as they fit the general slant of your reasoning and are not distorted to suit your aim.

Once again: good arguments with accurate referencing given in logic order will surely make the readers see your point as the right one. However, do not forget to give the arguments of an opposing side too, so that you would not only promote your view but also discredit what your opponents say. Quotations are also possible but in small amounts and strictly topical. Otherwise they can be interpreted differently from your point and be used as a weapon against your own position. Bear in mind that however cool and scientific arguments are provided, they should be written clearly and in common language, otherwise your point will be lost in numerous explanations and extra definitions. One more point about the language – do not impose yourself directly, but persuade with every presented issue.

The conclusion should repeat the view manifested in the introduction, as the readers will surely remember the first and the last statements given. Let them see it once more and remind them of all the things you have discussed in the essay. Your assurance will linger in their minds for sure long after reading.

However, the work is complicated and takes precious time, so sometimes it is more convenient to order a ready-made opinion paper based on a really captivating topic and use it as a basis for your own creativity.
